뉴욕주민 과반수 여전히 기호용 마리화나 합법화 지지

시에나 대학이 10일 발표한 여론조사 결과에 따르면 유권자의 55%가 기호용 마리화나의 합법화를 지지한다고 응답했습니다. 

반면 기호용 마리화나 합법화를 반대한다는 응답은 40%로, 이전 조사와 같이 지지 여론이 우세하게 나타났습니다.

기호용 마리화나 합법화에 대한 지지층은 뉴욕주의 모든 지역에서 일관되게 확인됐습니다.

특히, 35세 이하 응답자의 거의 75%가 찬성한다고 답했으며, 민주당 지지자의 거의 2/3 역시 기호용 마리화나의 합법화를 지지했습니다.

반면, 마리화나 합법화에 반대하는 층은 공화당 지지자와 노년층이 주를 이뤘으며, 조사 결과  55세 이상의 54%와 공화당 지지자 중 53%가 이에 반대한다는 입장 밝혔습니다.

뉴욕주의회 회기는 오는 19일로 종료합니다. 

현재 주상원에서 기호용 마리화나 합법화 통과를 위한 찬성표가 부족한 것으로 알려졌으며, 앤드류 쿠오모 주지사 역시 이번 회기에서는 합법화가 어려울 것으로 내다봤습니다.

한편, 이번 조사에서 서류미비 이민자에게 합법적으로 운전면허증을 허용하는 법안에는 전체 응답자의 41%가 찬성하는 것으로 나타났습니다. 

반면 전체의 53%는 이를 반대한다고 답했습니다.
