북텍사스 곳곳에 뇌우, 우박 동반한 기습 폭풍 발생

노동절(Labor day) 연휴 주말인 어제(4일)오후, 북텍사스 일부 지역에 심각한 폭풍이 몰아쳐 가옥 파손 및 정전 피해가 발생했습니다. 

어제오후 달라스와 덴튼(Denton) 콜린(Collin) 그리고 태런 카운티(Tarrant County) 지역들에서 심각한 뇌우를 동반한 폭풍 경보가 여러 차례 발령됐습니다. 

이번 폭풍 동안 최대 시속 60마일의 돌풍이불었고 최대 Quarter 사이즈의 우박도 떨어졌습니다.  

Quarter 사이즈는 대략 지름이 1인치 정도로 우박이 1인치 이상이면 심각한 것으로 간주되며 대략 탁구공만한 크기입니다.

지역전력공급업체 온코(Oncor)는 이번 폭풍으로 북텍사스 지역에서 최대 13만 2천명이 정전 피해를 입었고 이들 중 대다수가 달라스 카운티 거주자였다고 전했습니다. 

또한 어제 오후 내내 달라스러브 필드(Dallas Love Field)와 DFW 인터내셔널 공항(DFWInternational Airport)에선 비행기 이착륙 통제가 발효됐다가 오후 늦게 해제됐습니다. 

이번 폭풍으로 로열 레인(Royal Lane)과 에이브람스 로드(AbramsRoad) 인근의 한 아파트 단지 일부가 파손되는 피해가 발생했고 이스트 달라스(East Dallas)의 레잌우드 하이츠(Lakewood Hights) 주택가에선 가로수가 쓰러지기도 했습니다.
