In 1973, Ernest Paniccioli picked up a camera to document the graffiti art that was taking over New York City, and embarked on a journey to photograph the scene during hip-hop's most formative years. Always armed with a 35mm camera, he managed to photograph nearly every rapper of note from the genre's inception, becoming the go-to photographer for magazines like "Word Up" and "Rap Masters."
