    2020년의 신종 코로나 바이러스가 17년전인 2003년의 사스(SARS:중증 급성 호흡기 증후군) 피해를 끝내 추월하고도 기승을 부리고 있어 지구촌에 공포를 확산시키고 있다

    진원지 중국내 확진자들이 10일 현재 4만명, 사망자는 900명을 넘겨 2003년 사스때의 감염자 8098명, 사망자 774명을 넘어섰다

    특히 중국내에선 하루 사망자가 80명선에서 90명선으로 더 늘어나 통제불능에 빠지지나 않을까 극히 우려되고 있다

    중국내 확진자 4만명 가운데 5000여명은 위중한 상태로 집계되고 있어 인명피해가 계속 늘어날 것으로 보인다

    중국외에도 27개국에서 확진자들이 늘고 있는데 일본 90명, 싱가포르 40명, 태국 32명, 홍콩 29명, 한국 25명의 순으로 나타났다.

    미국내 확진자들은 아직 12명에 머물고 있는데 중국내 사망자중에는 첫번째 미국시민권자가 포함돼 미국인들의 두려움도 여전히 확산되고 있다.

    60세 여성으로 알려진 이 미국시민권자는 본국으로 후송되지 못한채 중국 우한의 한병원에서 사망한 것으로 미 국무부가 확인했다.

    미국은 그동안 전세기를 띄워 중국 우한에서 미국인 800명이나 미 본토로 대피시킨후 현재 미군기지 에서 잠복기인 14일 동안 격리보호하고 있다.

    미국내 확진자는 현재 12명으로 캘리포니아가 6명으로 절반이나 차지하고 있고 일리노이 2명이며 워싱턴주, 애리조나, 매사추세츠, 위스컨신이 각 1명씩을 기록하고 있다.

    이와함께 미국내 의심환자들이 36개주에서 337명이 있는 것으로 집계됐으나 그중에 225명은 음성으로  나타났고 100명에 대해 아직 검사하고 있다.

    신종 코로나 바이러스가 무서운 속도로 전파되면서 사망자가 사스 때를 추월하자 외부 지원을 거부해온 중국이 마침내 미국을 비롯한 국제사회의 도움을 수용했다.

    이에따라 미국이 주도하는 WHO(세계보건기구) 전문가팀이 중국에 입국해 전역을 돌면서 신종 코로나 바이러스의 상황을 파악하고 무엇으로 퇴치 할 수 있는지 해법을 알아보게 된다

    미 전문가들은 그간 사스는 물론 에볼라 바이러스, 조류독감 등을 다뤄온 경험으로 중국을 돌면서 이번 바이러스를 연구하고 어떻게 통제할 수 있을지 해법을 찾게 될 것으로 밝히고 있다
