가드 독(Guard Dog)이 출시한 2종류의 방탄 백팩 중, 프로 쉴드 스마트(Pro-Shield Smart) 백팩은 3단계 방어 수준을 자랑하는 제품으로, 44구경 매그넘과 9mm 총기 관통 실험을 통과한 가방으로 알려져 있습니다.

그러나 최근 몇 년 간 발생한 캠퍼스 총격 사건들로 아이들의 안전에 대한 걱정이 큰 학부모들의 관심을 한 번에 사로잡을 해당 방탄 백팩 출시에 대해 관련 전문가들이 공감하지 못하는 분위기인 것으로 전해졌습니다. 

퍼스 안전 매거진(Campus Safety Magazine)의 로빈 해터슬리(Robin Hattersley) 대표는 방탄 백팩 같은 상품이 사람들의 불안감을 이용하고 있다고 지적하며 우려를 드러냈습니다.

헤터슬리는 학부모들이 방탄 백팩에 200달러를 들이는 것은 현명한 처사라 볼 수 없다고 일침을 가하면서, 인터넷 안전성과 자녀의 소셜미디어 사용에 대해 관심을 갖고 관리하는 편이 더 바람직하다고 지적했습니다. 

아울러 온라인 상의 위협이 자녀들이 매일 접하는 실질적인 위협이라면서 지역사회 안전과 보안 모임에 적극적으로 참여해 자녀에게 안전한 환경을 제공하는 일에 나서 줄 것을 당부했습니다.
