(1) 어제 새벽 스노미시 카운티에 주유소를 대상으로 집단 강도 사건이 발생했습니다. 경찰은, 어제 새벽 2시 40분쯤 스노미시 카운티에 있는 한 주유소에 2명에서 4명의 남자들이 들어와 돈을 훔친 뒤 어두운 색의 SUV를 타고 달아났다고 전했습니다. 이후 10분 뒤, 강도들은 또 다른 주유소에 접근해 돈을 훔친 것이 드러났습니다. 목격자의 증언에 따르면 두 번째 주유소에서는 용의자들이 총기를 들고 주유소 직원을 위협한 것이 확인됐습니다.. 경찰은 강도 사건 중에 다친 사람은 없었으며 용의자를 조사 중이라고 전했습니다.
(2) UW 대학교에서 진행한 조사 결과, 시애틀 시에서 발생하는 증오 범죄 수가 2012년과 비교해 4배가 상승한 것으로 나타났습니다. 어제 진행한 의회 위원회에서UW 대학교의 토마스 교수는 증오 범죄 문제와 관련해 프레젠테이션을 진행했으며 증오 범죄 중 54%는 인종과 민족과 관련해서 발생하고 32%는 성적 지향 문제라고 발표했습니다. 또 토마스 교수는 다양한 인종이 거주하는 지역과 임대인의 숫자가 많은 지역에서 증오 범죄가 더 자주 발생한다고 밝혔습니다. 그는 증가하는 증오 범죄를 막고 인간의 존엄성을 강조할 수 있도록 법을 재정하고 적극적으로 활동할 필요가 있다며 범죄율 감소를 위한 시 당국의 중요성에 대해 강조했습니다
