달라스 로얄레인 한인타운에서 비즈니스를 운영하던 한 한인 남성이 지난 15일(월) 새벽 발생한, 경미한 교통사고가 총격으로 번지며 사망했습니다.
사망자는 로열레인 한인타운에서 패밀리 가라오케를 운영하던 신진씨로 알려졌습니다. 이날(15일) 새벽 2시 45분께 포트워스 사우스 유니버시티 드라이브(South University Drive) 남쪽방향 차선과 I-30고속도로 서쪽방향 차선 램프에서 차량간에 교통 사고가 발생했습니다.
포트워스 경찰에 따르면 신 씨가 몰던 지프 체로키(Jeep Cherokee) 차량과 소형 세단 차량 사이에 경미한 충돌 사고가 발생했고 이후 양쪽 차량 운전자들과 탑승자들이 서로 언쟁이 있었던 것으로 전해졌습니다. 소형 세단의 운전자는 여성으로 두 명의 여성 탑승자가 있었습니다.
경찰은 이들 여성들의 한 측근이 사고 현장에 도착했고, 그후 신 씨가 총격을 당해 사망했다고 발표했습니다. 또한 총격을 가한 사람은 총격 후 현장에 남아 있었고, 출동한 경찰들과 사건에 대해 이야기를 나눈 것으로 전해졌는데, 이번 총격 사건으로 인해 체포된 사람은 아직까진 없는 것으로 알려졌습니다.
한편 고 신진씨는 지난 달 13일, 한인 미용실 헤어월드 총격 피해자들에게 자신의 사비를 더해 5천달러의 성금을 전달한 바 있습니다. DKnet 방송국에서 이뤄진 성금 전달식에서 신씨는 “한인이 총격 피해를 입었고 미용실에서 한 번 만난 인연이지만 돕고 싶었다”고 동기를 밝힌 바 있습니다.
현재 신씨의 유가족들은 아직 경찰의 공식적인 입장을 듣지 못한 상황이라고 밝혔습니다. 신씨의 지인들은 한인 타운에서 사업을 운영하며 지역내 안전에 많은 관심을 기울였던 그가 결국 총기로 인해 비극적인 죽음을 맞게 됐다며 안타까움을 표했습니다.
