시애틀 인권위원회는 더컨 시장이 “시애틀 시민들의 권리를 보호하고 봉사할 의무를 지키지 않았다”며 “제니 더컨 시장에게 즉각 사임하거나 공직에서 물러날 것을 주장했습니다.
인권위원회는 성명에서 내년 시장선거를 언급하며 “2021년 11월까지 더컨 시장을 직위해제하고 모든 시민의 권리보호 의무를 지킬 인물로 교체하는 것을 기다릴 수 없다”고 덧붙였습니다.
1963년 설립된 시애틀 인권위원회는 시장, 시의회, 시민권익실 및 기타 시 부서에 인권과 관련된 사항을 자문하는 자원봉사단체입니다.
인권사무소는 예산, 정책 및 입법 결정에 대해 권고할 수 있지만, 의사결정을 행사할 수는 없습니다.
한편, 더컨 시장은 아직 인권위원회의 요구에 대해 응답하지 않았습니다.
