시카고, 지난 주말에도 다수의 총기난사로 최소 53명 부상, 4명 사망

시카고에서 지난 22일과 23일 다수의 잇단 총기 난사 사건으로 대규모 인명 피해가 발생, 도심 총격 피해가 지난 주말에도 끊이질 않았다.

시카고 경찰(CPD) 발표에 따르면, 최소 53명이 총상을 입고 이 중 4명이 사망한 것으로 확인됐다. 경찰은 22일(토) 자정 12시 13분, 사우스 사이드 오스틴 지역의 노스 로렐 애비뉴 800 번지에서 검은색 지프 체로키에 타고 있던 한 남성이 차에서 내려 길 가에 서 있던 3명에게 무차별 총격을 가해 총상을 입혔다고 보고했다.

이 중 26세의 한 남성은 목과 가슴, 다리에 총상을 입고 인근 병원 마운트 시나이(Mount Sinai)병원으로 긴급히 후송됐으나 사망했으며, 42세의 여성과 37세의 남성이 다리에 부상을 입고 쿡 카운티 스트로거 병원으로 옮겨져 현재 치료를 받고 있는 것으로 전해졌다. 마운트 시나이 병원에서 목숨을 잃은 26세의 남성 신원은 안토니 로즈(Antoine L. Rose)로 알려졌다.

토요일 오전 5시에는 한 남성이 사우스 오스틴 지역의 노스 메이필드 애비뉴 100 블록에서 머리에 총상을 입고 쓰러져 있다는 신고를 받고 출동한 경찰이 사건 현장에서 피해자를 발견, 로욜라 대학 메디컬 센터로 이송했으나 수술 중 사망한 것으로 알려졌으며, 일요일 오전 6시 20분, 27세의 한 남성이 론 데일의 사우스 코멘 스키 애비뉴 1800 불록에서 가슴과 골반에 여러 차례 총상을 입고 마운트 시나이 병원으로 후송됐으나 끝내 숨졌다.

이 외에도 토요일 오전 2시 53분, 론데일의 사우스 알바니 애비뉴 1100 블록에서도 총격사건이 잇따라 37세의 여성이 다리에 총상을 입고, 20세의 남성이 팔과 다리에 총에 맞아 마운트 시나이 병원으로 이송돼 치료를 받고 있다.

이후 일요일에도 니어 웨스트 사이드의 웨스트 14th street 1000블록에서 3명이 총상을 입었으며, 잉글우드의 사우스 할스테드 스트릿 6600블록에서 오후 4시 30분경 총격으로 4명이 부상했다. 오후 7시 30분경에는 니어 웨스트 사이드의 W. 아담스 스트릿 2500 블록에서 남 녀가 총상을 입고 쿡 카운티의 스트로거 병원으로 후송됐으나, 현재 위독한 상태인 것으로 알려졌다.

한편 시카고 경찰은 이날 언론 브리핑을 통해 “각 총격사건의 용의자 신원 및 범행 동기 등은 아직 파악하지 못한 상태로, 주민들의 제보를 수집 중”이라고 전했다.
